As at October 31, 2014, the Russian Federation continues to build up its forces in the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. At that we increasingly receive reports that militants have BM-30 “Smerch” multiple rocket launchers (one of the identified places of deployment is the warehouse of the “Dominion” Trade House in Donetsk; it is located 84.5 km away from the headquarters of Ukrainian military in Kramatorsk), BM-27 “Uragan” multiple rocket launcher systems (deployed to Horlivka, former railway station “Promyvochna”, 48 km away from Ukrainian emplacements). Our observers also detected movement of S-300 (NATO reporting name is SA-10 Grumble) long range surface-to-air missile systems (one of the identified places of deployment is the warehouse of the “Dominion” Trade House in Donetsk). If those S-300 systems are of S-300PMU-1 modification (NATO reporting name is SA-20 Gargoyle), they greatly complicates application of tactical aviation very difficult in the entire crisis region. Militants continue to seize military units. Today military unit #3037 of internal troops in Donetsk and military unit A1402 (Donetsk anti-aircraft missile regiment) have fallen. Ammunition in the depot of the internal troops’ military unit blows up because of blasts arranged by servicemen in advance. Antiaircraft defense reportedly lost 9K77 Buk missile systems. However, this information requires confirmation because other sources report that the military unit did not have those missile systems.
Through the Kerch ferry the anti-aircraft missile battalion S-300 consisting of 4 batteries was delivered to Crimea by the railroad train of 25 cars. They also delivered some engineering equipment (4 armored tractors, mobile diesel generators, tankers, 4 UAZes). Continue reading
